Annual Honey Show Competition

Auckland Beekeepers’ Club Inc. Annual Honey Show

Entries will be received into the following classes.

The Auckland Beekeepers’ Club Annual Honey Show is our yearly showcase of honey, wax, hive products and beekeeping photography produced by local beekeepers.

Members enter items from the season’s harvest for judging, and visitors are welcome to view the displays and see the range of products that can come from a hive.

Date: Saturday 14 March

New beekeepers are welcome — simply arrange membership before submitting an entry.

Honey Competition Classes

1. Extraction Frame

From a 9" frame or smaller honey box with capping suitable for hot knife. Plastic frames acceptable.
One frame per person.

A. Full Depth
B. ¾ Frame
C. ½ Frame

2. Honey Frame

Suitable for cutting into comb sections.
One frame per person.

A. Full Depth
B. ¾ Frame
C. ½ Frame

3. Dark Honey — Granulated

4. Dark Honey — Liquid

Straight from the hive.
Hint: place entries in the deep freeze and remove approximately two days prior to the show.

5. Medium Honey — Granulated

6. Medium Honey — Liquid

7. Light Honey — Granulated

8. Light Honey — Liquid

9. Wooden Frames and Ross Rounds

Also called box honey sections. Contains capped honeycomb.

10. Cut Comb Honey

Boxed in a white container with clear plastic lid.

11. Wax Block

To weigh as near to 500 g as possible.

Non-Trophy Entries

12. Novelty Wax

Crafted items appealing to the judge’s eye.

13. Honey-Based Product

Appealing to one of the four senses: sight, taste, touch or smell.

Photography Competition

Winning entries will be voted for by members on the day.

Classes

Class A – Close-up Print
Subject must relate to beekeeping.

Class B – Scenic Print
Apiary subject such as flowers or hives.

Class C – Portrait Print
Person, beekeeping procedure, honey or hive by-product processing in an appropriate setting.

Photo Submission

Digital format requested, highest resolution where possible for best reproduction.
Photos may be black & white or colour.

The club will print photographs at 5 × 7.

Photography Rules

  • Entries restricted to members of the Auckland Beekeepers’ Club

  • One entry per person per class

  • Photographs must be taken by the member submitting

  • Clearly state which class the photograph is to be entered in

  • Must be submitted by Wednesday 11 March 2026

Painted / Decorated Bee Boxes

Winning entries will be voted for by members on the day.

Entries should be delivered for display at the apiary by 12 midday.

Can be 1 to 3 boxes, either ¾ or Full Depth.
