About Auckland Beekeepers Club
Founded in 1947, The Auckland Beekeepers Club is a not-for-profit group dedicated to sharing knowledge and supporting hobbyist beekeepers.
What do We do?
We promote the vital role bees play in our environment. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, you’ll find learning, support and camaraderie here.
Our monthly Field Days are the heart of club life:
“How-to” sessions and hive maintenance
Seasonal advice and guest speakers
Hands-on learning with our club’s hives
A community lunch and time to connect with others
We also host beginner courses, maintain a demonstration apiary and support members through every stage of their beekeeping journey.
Our Mission
Learn. Educate. Inspire.
We exist to:
Teach responsible beekeeping practices through hands-on learning
Create community through Field Days, talks and events
Support our members with ongoing education and resources
Help the public understand and appreciate the value of bees
Club History
The club was founded by a group of hobbyists, including Percy Hillary (father of Sir Edmund Hillary), who sought a space focused on education and community and not industry politics.
From our original site near Meola Creek to our new home at Gribblehirst Hub, we’ve remained committed to accessible, hands-on learning. The club now, as in the past, has a strong focus on teaching the art of beekeeping.
